Anvils

Anvils

Often used in metalworking, machining, and welding applications, anvils are heavy blocks of hardened metal that provide a work surface for shaping and forging both hot and cool metals with a hammer. Their large faces absorb little energy when struck, allowing most of the energy to be directed into the material. Anvils typically have a square hardy hole, used for attaching forming and cutting tools to the anvil, and a round pritchel hole for punching holes in a workpiece. They also have a conical horn for shaping curves into the workpiece.
