Open End Wrenches

Open End Wrenches

One of the most commonly used tools, open-end wrenches have one or two U-shaped heads with fixed jaws for turning or holding a specific fastener size. The jaws grip two opposing faces of a hexagonal fastener and have a smooth surface to reduce the risk of damaging the fastener. Open-end wrenches can approach a fastener from the top or side and are a useful alternative to a box wrench in applications where it is not possible to approach the fastener from the top, such as when working on pipe joints.

Double End

With a head on both ends of the tool, double-end wrenches allow a wider range of jobs to be accomplished with one tool. Each head fits a specific size of fastener. The heads may be the same or different sizes, and they may be set at the same or a different angle to the tool body.

Insulated

Insulated hand tools help reduce risk of electrical shock when working near energized circuits. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) includes choosing insulated tools in its best practices guidelines for electrical safety in the workplace.

Interchangeable Handle

The head of these open end wrenches can be removed from the handle, allowing different heads (sold separately) to be attached to the tool. With a knurled handle for good grip, these miniature tools are well suited for working on small fasteners and components. The wrench heads are offset at a 30° angle to allow better access to hard-to-reach fasteners.

Non-Sparking

Made from nonferrous materials, these tools help minimize the risk of the tool generating a spark while in use and are useful in environments that contain flammable solvents, liquids, vapors, dusts, or residues. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) has developed best practices guidelines for certain chemicals and processes that include choosing nonsparking tools.
