Chip-Free Machine Taps

Also called thread-forming taps, chip-free machine taps press against the sides of the hole as the tap is rotated to form threads. They produce cleaner, stronger, and more accurate threads than taps that cut threads and are commonly used in softer materials. These taps don't produce chips, which eliminates the need to clear chips from the hole and helps prevent threads from being deformed during tapping. Because they don't have flutes to chip or damage, chip-free taps are typically more durable than fluted taps. These taps are intended for use on a machine such as a drill press, lathe, or CNC machine.
