Forstner Drill Bits for Smooth Finish & Flat-Bottomed Holes
Ideal for applications where the holes in a workpiece will be visible, Forstner bits create large-diameter holes with flat bottoms and smooth walls. Some bits have a self-feeding tip that pulls the bit into the workpiece and helps prevent the bit from walking during drilling. Forstner bits are best used in a drill press or a brace because they require heavy pressure.
The most common shank style, round shanks provide more accurate bit centering than a hex shank or 3-flat shank. They can be used in drills with a 3-jaw chuck or a collet chuck, but the chuck must be tightened to keep the bit from slipping.
