Compression Springs

The most common style of spring, compression springs are often used to stabilize and separate parts or to cushion them from impact or shock. They can be found in equipment such as engine valves, battery holders, and even ballpoint pens. When a load is applied to a compression spring, it shortens to absorb the energy. When compressed, it pushes back against the load in an effort to return to its original shape. The more the spring is compressed, the greater the force it exerts on the part.
