TIG Tungsten Electrodes

These non-consumable electrodes are held in a tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding torch to form an electric arc for creating welds on a workpiece. Tungsten has an extremely high melting point, allowing the electrodes to remain intact during the welding process.

TIG welding, also known as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) or Heli-arc welding, creates fast, clean welds on a wide range of materials without generating spatter, sparks, smoke, or fumes. It is ideal for welding surfaces that will be visible.

2% Lanthanated: General Purpose & Long Life

2% lanthanated electrodes feature good arc starting at lower amperages, good arc stability, and a low burnoff rate and provide long life in most TIG welding tasks. They take a pointed or balled tip and can be used in AC or DC welding processes. Lanthanated electrodes can sometimes be used to replace thoriated electrodes, which contain radioactive thorium, without needing to make significant changes to the welding program.

2% Lanthanated (Blue)

1.5% Lanthanated: Best for Arc Re-Ignition

Featuring excellent re-ignition properties, 1.5% lanthanated electrodes have excellent arc starting, good arc stability, and a low burnoff rate and are best suited for DC welding processes. Lanthanated electrodes can sometimes be used to replace thoriated electrodes, which contain radioactive thorium, without needing to make significant changes to the welding program.

1.5% Lanthanated (Gold)

Thoriated: Best for Long Life

Long-lasting thoriated electrodes provide excellent arc starting and current carrying capacity, a low burnoff rate, good resistance to contamination, and good arc stability in DC welding applications. Although they are primarily recommended for DC welding applications, thoriated electrodes can be used in some AC welding processes on thin materials. They contain thorium, which is a radioactive substance.

2% Thoriated (Red)

Rare Earth: Best for Arc Stability

These rare earth electrodes provide good longevity and excellent arc stability with minimal tungsten spitting in both AC and DC welding processes. Rare earth electrodes can sometimes be used to replace thoriated electrodes, which contain radioactive thorium, without needing to make significant changes to the welding program.

Rare Earth (Light Blue)

Pure Tungsten: Best for Aluminum & Magnesium

Less costly than alloyed electrodes, pure tungsten electrodes have the highest consumption rate of all electrodes. They form a clean, balled tip when heated and provide good arc stability in AC sine wave welding processes, particularly with aluminum and magnesium.

Pure Tungsten (Green)

Ceriated: Best for Low Current Welding

Ceriated tungsten electrodes provide good arc stability, good longevity, and good arc starts at low amperages, and are well suited for low-current AC and DC welding processes. These electrodes are often used for welding thin sheet metal, pipe and orbital tubes, and fragile or small parts. Ceriated electrodes can sometimes be used to replace thoriated electrodes, which contain radioactive thorium, without needing to make significant changes to the welding program.

2% Ceriated (Gray)

Zirconiated: Best for AC Welding

With a stable arc and good resistance to tungsten spitting and contamination, zirconiated tungsten electrodes retain a balled tip well and are best suited for AC welding processes. Zirconiated tungsten electrodes are not recommended for DC welding processes.
