About Annular Cutters for Magnetic Base Drills

Make accurate, smooth-walled holes to tight tolerances using less power and effort and generating less material for removal than traditional twist drill bits. Annular cutters, also known as core drills, have a hollow core surrounded by flutes and teeth that cut through the perimeter of the hole during drilling, leaving a solid slug in the center. A pilot pin centers the drill, allows coolant to flow to the tip during cutting, and removes the slug. These cutting tools can typically create more holes than traditional twist drill bits and hole saws before they must be resharpened and do not require predrilling or step drilling. Annular cutters are designed for use with drill presses with a magnetic base, but they can also be used with stationary setups such as mills, lathes, and CNC machines. Arbors and arbor adapters connect the cutter to the machine.
