About Straight Flute Hand Taps

Sometimes referred to as hand taps, straight-flute taps are suitable for general-purpose manual tapping operations with a tap wrench. They have straight flutes along the cutting edge and can be used to tap blind holes and through holes. As the tap is rotated into a hole to create threads, the chips move into the flutes but are not evacuated.

These taps have a TiN (titanium nitride) coating that provides good temperature resistance and wear protection and provides a smooth surface on the tool that prevents chips from sticking to the cutting edge, helping to extend the life of the tool. High speed steel taps are suitable for use in a variety of materials, including steel and nonferrous metals. TiN coating has a gold color.
