About Central Air Conditioning Evaporative Coolers

Also known as swamp coolers, evaporative coolers draw in warm air from the outdoors, pass it over water-saturated pads where evaporation cools and humidifies the air, and blow out the fresh, cooled air. They don't require refrigerant so there's no recharging and they cost less to operate than refrigerant-based air conditioners. They're most effective in drier climates where relative humidity is below 75%, but may not be a viable choice for areas with limited water supplies.

Set the neck of these coolers into an open window to deliver cooled air to one or more rooms or connected spaces. The largest part of the cooler sits outside of the window for maximum exposure to fresh air, and the air outlet sits in the window similar to a standard window AC unit.
